Amarok on Mac OS X

December 18, 2010 | 1 Comment

After several attempts in the last few months, I finally have Amarok running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard with MacPorts. The installation went as it should with the following steps :

  1. download and install the latest version of Mac Ports for your version of OS X
  2. run sudo port selfupdate
  3. run sudo port upgrade
  4. run sudo port install amarok (and wait… a long time…)
  5. run sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.freedesktop.dbus-system.plist
  6. run launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist
  7. run sudo chown -R <your_username> ~/Library/Preferences/KDE
  8. run amarok using your favorite launcher
  9. if you’re lucky, it all works. If you’re unlucky, try updating macports again and rerun the above steps (that’s how I eventually got it)

I enjoy playing with my computer(s), listening to Bob Dylan (and related artists) and watching movies (especially if they were directed by Martin Scorsese or John Cassavetes). Sometimes, I play a little guitar... If not doing any of the above, I am either riding a small red bike around Paris, or, making videos. About my videomaking please check out World Wide Angle and its blog.
